Parent-Teacher Conferences

Career Fest for 10th and 11th grade

Reminder!  HHS 10th and 11th grade students will be attending Career Fest on Tuesday, Feb. 17.  This year, the event is located at the Barry County Expo Center.  For lunch schedules, all 10th graders will attend "B" lunch on this day, and all 11th graders will attend "A" lunch.  Parents/Guardians, If you do NOT wish for your student to participate, please notify the high school office for attendance purposes.   (2/17)

 

BLOOD DRIVE

The Interact club is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, February 26 from 8:00am to 12:30pm. Everyone who attempts to donate will receive a pair of black/white flannel pants while supplies last. If you would like to donate please sign up online here!

COURSE OFFERINGS

 

Film As Lit

Attention movie lovers! Film as Lit is a one-semester elective that is offered at HHS. In this class, we watch a variety of movies over several genres, analyze them, and look at how the movie was made. 100% of last semester's class said they would recommend Film as Lit to a friend. Sign up for it on your schedule today! If you have any questions, please talk to Ms. Slaughter or Ms. Northrop.

 

Ecology

If you are interested in learning more about trees, moss, lichen, wetlands, rivers, streams, water quality, AND you like to be outside learning, then the Ecology Classes are for you! With Forest Ecology offered in the fall and Wetland Ecology offered in the spring, you could be outside and appreciating nature all year! STUDENT SERVICES

 SCHEDULE COURSE REQUESTS DEADLINE
Attention 9th, 10th and 11th graders . . . The deadline to submit your Course Requests in PowerSchool is Monday, March 2.  Also, students submitting an Interest Form for Honors, AP, Culinary, Trades Block, Ed Academy, Yearbook, Advanced Ag, or TVP must turn in their Interest Forms to the Counseling Department no later than Monday, March 2. 

If your requests are not submitted by the due date - your next year's schedule will be built from your choices made during your scheduling lesson and/or whatever course availability remains after primary scheduling.  

 

 

 

COURSE REQUEST Q & A

Have a few questions about your course selection for next year?  Bring your laptop to lunch with you on Tuesday, 2/24 or Wednesday, 2/25.  Ms. Tolles and Ms. Peg will be in both lunch periods and available to answer your questions.  Look for the scheduling cart - blinking lights and all.  Remember you only have until Monday, March 2 to submit your final requests and any Interest forms.  (2/25)

 

 

Campus Visit

Are you seriously considering college after high school? Would you like to learn more about academics, student life, and food at Central Michigan University? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, consider signing up for the campus visit to CMU on Feb. 19. Come to the Counseling Department.to sign up and get a permission slip. Your grades, attendance/tardies, and behavior are considered, and upperclassmen will be given priority. (2/16)

 

 

 

 

CLUBS

 

KEY CLUB

Attention Key Club, we have our morning meeting this Wed. At 7:20am. We will be discussing our spring service projects. (2/17)

 

 

SKI CLUB

The next Ski and Snowboard Club trip to Bittersweet will be this Friday, February 20th, from 9:30-5:00. This is our day trip. We will depart and return to the Middle School. If you reserved a spot for the trip that was cancelled on February 6th, that ticket will be good for this trip. You must turn in your $5 for the bus by Wednesday, February 18th. If you haven't signed up and would like to go, or have questions, please contact Mrs. Laubaugh at kristen.laubaugh@hassk12.org. (2/20)

Hastings GSA is having a meeting on Thursday, February 19th from 3-4pm in Ms. Putnam's room (B205). All are welcome, so bring a friend. (2/19)

RESULTS from coaches

 

Bowling

The Saxons traveled to JAX 60 to bowl in the I8 Bowling Conference Singles.

The Saxon JV Boys: Brennen Armstrong finishing in 12th place out of 30 JV Boys bowling a 754. Max Steele 24th place with a 662 total pins. And Gavin Mix 27th with a 614 series out of 6 games.

The Varsity Saxon Girls bowled their 6 games with Megan Ramey placing 4th earning an All-Conference title rolling a 1015 with a 190 and 196 high games. Chloe Pirtle placed 23rd with a 727 series a high game of 134. Tempy Jiles 25th place with a 688 series and a 143 high game. Khloe Baker 26th with a 680 series and a high game of 157, and Misha Haskin bowling a 444 series for the day.

The Varsity Saxon Boys bowled against 37 Varsity bowlers and the Saxons had two All-Conference players with Brody Mix placed 3rd with a 1213 series, and Andrew Barton 4th place with a 1202 and a high game of 266. Owen Boge 12th place Honorable Mention with a 1051 series. Aiden Hook 16th place with a 1024 series. Dakota Cole 27th place with a 946, and Jonas Stiling finishing in 33rd place with a 849 series.


We have make-up Matches on Monday against Jackson Northwest at home and Tuesday against Marshall and then on to Regionals.

 

 

 

Girls Wrestling

The Girls Wrestling team continued its outstanding season by winning the first ever awarded Girls District Championship here at the high school this past Sunday. The Girls scored 171.5 pts out distancing 2nd place Plainwell and Middleville - Thornapple Kellogg who both had 126. The Saxons actually scored 30 pts more than any other of the 7 District Championship Teams throughout the State. 11 Girls Qualified for Regionals next Sunday. Earning Individual District Championships in their weight class were Riley Furrow, Dez Mathis and Ashlyn Bailey. Placing 2nd was Sara Baker. Placing third were Autumn Mayak, Abby Frazer and Alexia Owen. Placing 4th were Jayda Villareal, Nani Farrell, London Hammond, and Chloe Aicken.

The team heads to Portage Northern for Regionals next Sunday.

 

 

 

Boys Wrestling

The Boys Wrestling team competed at Individual Districts this weekend in Howell. The team competed well in a solid district and had 5 individual placers. Congratulations to Hunter Sutfin, Reyd Zoerman, Liam Renner, Jace Acker, and Tyce Richardson on placing in the top four and qualifying for individual Regionals. Hunter was a district champ at 113 pounds. Liam and Jace finished in 3rd place and Reyd and Tyce finished in 4th place.


The team competes at team regionals this Wednesday at Portage Northern.
