Tears, jubilation, hugs…even some silly string and popsicles. Students throughout the district celebrated their last day of school in all kinds of ways.
We want to thank all the students, teachers, parents, and staff who made this school year such a success. Now go enjoy your summer. You’ve earned it!

On Saturday, Bella and Olivia Friddle represented the Saxons at the track state finals!
Huge congratulations to Bella for placing 5th in high jump with an impressive 5'3" jump, earning All-State honors for the second year in a row! 🏅🙌
Bella also qualified and competed in long jump, while Olivia qualified and competed in shot put. Great work to both athletes for making it to State and competing at such a high level!

Enjoy the sounds of the Saxons band program in a truly unique setting. Our annual Concert in the Hayfield is TODAY, May 29, 2025.
It features both the Thornapple Jazz Orchestra and our own 8th- through 11th-grade band. We're trading the HPAC for a wide open hayfield for this one.
We'll have ice cream, concessions and a silent auction, so make sure you bring some cash and a lawn chair!

Just like their senior classmates last week, the underclassmen of Hastings High School gathered at the HPAC last night for a special evening of recognition. The event highlighted outstanding academic achievement, with department awards handed out to students who have gone above and beyond in their coursework this year. The stage was filled with proud and hardworking students!

Our marching band had the honor of performing in the Memorial Day Parade, with a stop at the Veterans Memorial by Tyden Park.
Megan Ramey and Owen Boge gave a moving rendition of “Taps,” following a rifle salute by the Honor Guard from the Lawrence J. Bauer American Legion Post 45.
Thank you to everyone who came out to honor and remember those who served.

Today, we hope that everyone has the opportunity to pause, remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their dedication to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.
At Hastings Area School System, we are deeply grateful for the heroes who have served and those who continue to serve. Thank you.

Due to the forecasted cold and potentially rainy weather on Thursday, the Hastings High School graduation ceremony will be moved indoors to the school gymnasium.
Please note that all other details of the event, including the 7:00 p.m. start time, will remain the same.

Our district is excited to launch a mobile app designed to keep students, parents, and community members informed and connected right from their phones. Since most families rely on mobile devices as their primary source of communication, we partnered with a developer to create a custom app just for Hastings.
With the Hastings Area School System app, you can read the latest announcements, access staff contact information, view upcoming events and find important documents and resources.
The app is free to download and available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
It’s everything HASS...in your pocket.

🎉 Our seniors made it to their final day of school!🎓
We had a lot of fun this morning with one of our favorite annual traditions: Decision Day. This is an opportunity to celebrate all the plans ahead of our seniors after they leave our halls. Thanks to generous donations, we also gave away a ton of great prizes to send them on their way in style!
Whether you're off to college, trade school, straight into a job, or forging your own path, you’ll always be a Saxon!

The Hastings High School staff would like to thank all parents and community members who so graciously supported our teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! We had a delicious lunch and a week's worth of snacks, chips, candy, ice cream - you name it! THANK YOU to our wonderful families and community! You ROCK!!

Today, Tech Ninjas from all four elementary buildings visited the CTE department at the high school. Students visited Engineering Design, Culinary Arts, Agriculture, Construction Trades, Welding, Business, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Marketing classes. High School students shared their expertise and students enjoyed learning about their future opportunities, trying a few new things, and making candy sushi! Big thanks to our students and staff in HHS CTE for hosting the ninjas for their culminating experiece after a year of hard work!

This morning, Zoe Watson officially signed her National Letter of Intent to compete in track & field at the University of Olivet. She'll be proudly representing the blue and gold at the next level, and we couldn't be more proud of her hard work and dedication. 💙💛

Hands-on science in action! 🌊🔬
Last week, our High School Aquatic Ecology class had an incredible opportunity to partner with the Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI) for a field science experience on Spring Lake and Lake Michigan, made possible by a generous grant from the Hastings Education Enrichment Foundation (HEEF).
Students boarded a research vessel to explore real-world environmental science, learning new problem-solving skills, collecting data, and discussing Great Lakes-specific ecological issues directly with scientists in the field.
A big thank you to HEEF for funding this experience, and to AWRI for hosting our students on the water.

A special shoutout is due for 10 of our student-athletes who were recognized last night at Harper Creek High School for earning I-8 Scholar Athlete honors. The criteria used for selection for this honor include earning two varsity letters (minimum) during their senior year and qualifying within the top 10 of those students who accomplished that feat.
The list is as follows:
- Isabel Gee
- Donald Kuck
- Brandon Simmons
- Kennedy Lewis
- Victoria Tack
- Jordan Milanowski
- Rachael Hewitt
- Naomi Grummet
- Micah Johnson
- Jett Barnum
Congratulations to these young people that have left an indelible mark on Hastings High School during their careers as Saxon student-athletes. Congrats, also, to their families and educators who have played a significant supporting role in their successes.

Today, the GFWC Hastings Women’s Club welcomed our senior girls for the cherished annual Senior Tea, a tradition where generations of women come together to share wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration as our Saxon seniors prepare for life beyond high school.
This year’s tea featured two dynamic guest speakers, Danielle Schneider, and Sophia Baker, both of whom work in the engineering field. They shared powerful insights about breaking into, and succeeding, in all industries and encouraged our seniors to follow their passions.
The club also presented a scholarship to senior Lilyah Solmes, who, like the keynote speakers, will study engineering this fall at BYU.
Thank you to the Hastings Women’s Club for your hospitality!

The 80-degree, sunny weather was the perfect backdrop for the Hastings Steel Drum Band yesterday afternoon. The Saxons took the stage at Thornapple Plaza to perform as part of day one of Thornapple Arts Council's Jazz Fest!

They handle the work behind the scenes, in front of the scenes and pretty much everywhere else. Yesterday was National Administrative Professionals Day, and we extended a huge thank you to our rock star staff of administrative assistants and secretaries!

A 🎵 music-filled 🎶 week in on tap as the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Fest hits the streets of Hastings!
Our talented Saxon musicians will be performing alongside bands from all across the state. Check out this schedule to see where and when they’re performing.
Come out, show your support, and soak up sounds from some great musicians.

From field trips to game days, our students are always on the go—and it’s all thanks to the awesome folks behind the wheel. 🚌 Today is Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and we’re sending a big thank you to our incredible drivers who keep things rolling safely and smoothly. Let’s show them some love!
